Eco Value

Modern Vintage Attic supports Fair Trade, a socially responsible movement to ensure that marginalized and disadvantaged world producers receive sufficient compensation for the goods they produce. We want to instill principles of accountability, freedom of association, safe working conditions, and fair living wages, and ensure respect for human labor is integrated into our business practices. A great source of Fair Trade information can be found at the Fair Trade Federation (FTF) , dedicated to strengthing and promoting North American organizations that are fully committed to Fair Trade. The Federation is part of the global fair trade movement to build equitable and sustainable trading partnerships that create opportunities to alleviate poverty.

By supporting companies and organizations that are approved or certified by Fair Trade Labelling Organizations, we can support sustainable development in developing countries and help these producers gain access to international markets.  We increase the available livelihoods and improve the living conditions for families around the world.

Other businesses implement fair labor standards as originally outlined by the International Labor Organization (ILO).  These businesses may be located in the US, Canada, or overseas; each is committed to providing a fair wage, safe and healthy work environments, and a workforce free from forced and child labor.  The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and SA8000 represent two examples of fair labor standards at work in the textile industry.

We at Modern Vintage Attic pride ourselves in working with companies that are approved Fair Trade such as the Autonomie Project.  Others,   such as Eco Eversion, Urth Bags, and Green Veranda, work to implement Fair Trade principles but are not approved members of a Fair Trade organization. We also carry a variety of fair labor companies, those owned by individual artisans such as; Clare Bare, Eye Pop Art, and Maple XO and those produced by employees in the US or Canada with eco designers such as Earth Creations and Global Ghetto Organics. By supporting sustainably grown fiber like hemp and organic bamboo or organically grown cotton and recycled materials and by supporting fair practices for workers, we at Modern Vintage Attic bring social consciousness to the textile industry in Canada and around the world.

Thank you to all of our customers who help support our business and help us achieve this goal.

Be the change that you want to see in the world.
